Army JROTC Raiders are some of the most physically fit members of the JROTC program. Candidates normally are selected by superior performance on the Cadet Challenge, a physical fitness evaluation that all cadets must complete.
Training is arduous, and encompasses long distance (3 mile) running, push-ups and sit-ups, single rope bridge construction and operation, as well as other special events.
Eight to nine cadets make up a competition "A" Team. At most Raider Meets, a total of 8 cadets compete in each event, but a substitute cadet can be inserted into the team roster based on the proficiency of each individual, (nine makes eight).
Raider Meets consist of four standard competitions; physical fitness test, three mile unit run, rope bridge, vehicle pull plus a Commander's event.
Winning Raiders consistently run 3 miles in under 21 minutes, and will "knock-out" 70 push-ups and 80 sit-ups in less than 2 minutes for each event.
